ICT Technical Diploma Level 2 at Warrington & Vale Royal College
If you are interested in computing and would like this to be your chosen career route, this ICT course will enable you to build on your existing knowledge and skills. Potential future career routes include Computer Games Designer, Web Designer and Video production.
This course includes the following topics:
- On-Line World
- Technology Systems
- Digital Portfolio
- Computer Networks
- Installing Hardware
- Installing Software
A minimum of 4 GCSEs (D or above) including English or successful completion of a Level 1 course with Functional Skills Maths and English). If you have not already achieved a Level 2 or GCSE grade C or above in English or Maths, you will be expected to work towards a qualification as part of your vocational course. This will increase your chances of employment or progression onto higher education. You will be assessed and put onto a suitable course which will enable you to achieve a qualification.
You will be assessed via a combination of portfolio based assessment and externally set assessments.
You will be encouraged to purchase hard drives on which to save your work in order to enable you to work independently outside College.
Following successful completion of this course you can progress onto the OCR Cambridge Technical in IT at Level 3 or onto a related computing course to improve your knowledge and skills. Alternatively you can seek employment within the computing industry.
Will I complete work placements?
The College is committed to ensuring that all students benefit from the opportunity to undertake work placement whilst at College and we will support you to obtain aplacement in a relevant vocational setting.You will also have the opportunity to work on ‘live’ client briefs as part of your assessments.
Are trips and residentials organised during the course?
Every year the department organises a different trip abroad. Past trips have included visits to Disneyland Paris, Barcelona and the Port Adventura theme park in Spain. Plans are currently underway for a trip to China.The cost of all trips is determined by the place being visited and the length of stay. In addition various day trips are organised thatare appropriate to the units being studied.
Are there any links with industry?
The department has strong links with employers, including an employer who undertakes work for Microsoft, which has previously enabled students to complete work experience with Microsoft in London, Denmark and Spain.
