Health and Social Care Level 2 Diploma at Chichester College

Course description

The aims of this qualifications is to inspire and enthuse you to consider a career in the health and social care sector, give you the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of and develop skills in the health and social care sector We will support your progression into a more specialised level 3 vocational/academic health and social care course or an apprenticeship which will give you the potential opportunity in due course to enter employment within a wide range of job roles.

Course content

You will take a total of 11–13 units to complete this qualification. An example of some of the units you my study are: • Human Lifespan Development • Health and Social Care Values • Effective Communication in Health and Social Care • Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing • The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing • Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care • Individual Rights in Health and Social Care • Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health and Social Care All learners are required to take or work towards GCSE A*–C English and Mathematics or other English and Mathematics qualifications as part of your study programme if you have not achieved this already. In accordance with the new Enhanced Disclosure (DBS) regulations, all students will have to sign a “disqualification by association” declaration form before going into work placements with under 5’s.

• Arranging role plays or simulated activities to illustrate examples of good and bad practice, such as the effective/ineffective application of communication skills within health and social care scenarios. • Local employer to set learners a problem-solving activity to be carried out in groups • Invite guest speakers to speak to students to discuss their work and experiences within the health and social care industry. • Visits by learners to health and social care settings.

Entry requirements

• Minimum age 16 years. • 3 GCSE subjects grade A*-D including English Language. • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring service check – charge applicable


This qualification includes 2 externally assessed units (the remaining internal) that will assist you to progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to a related academic qualification by providing independent assessment evidence of learning alongside the portfolio based assessment.

Future opportunities

Progression on to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic health
and social care course or an apprenticeship as it will give you the
potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide
range of job roles.

You will have the opportunity to gain work experience by attending at
placement in a health or social care environment. Also we offer a wellstocked
library and resource centre with access to our fantastic IT
facilities to enhance your learning experience.
