Course description

This is a course which allows students to practically apply their skills and business knowledge, in preparation for further study or the workplace. Students will develop practical skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and to manage their time.

This is a flexible course offering different qualification options. Students can study the CTEC Level 3 Business Certificate (equivalent to one AS level), or Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A level) or Diploma (equivalent to two A levels).

 

You will study a range of business topics, such as the importance of customers, and communication within a business. In addition you will learn how businesses operate which involves looking at different functional areas, organisational structures and how financial information is used. Plus you will gain an understanding of how to work effectively in a business environment.

 

If you choose to study the Diploma you will be following the accounting pathway. This involves studying accounting topics such as costing and pricing methods, break-even analysis, budgets, capital investment appraisals and cash flow forecasts.

 

The course is assessed via examinations and assignments (which include written reports, verbal presentations and role plays). Through completing the course you will develop key skills, such as communication, numeracy, IT and independent learning, which are highly valued by employers and universities.

Entry requirements

You need either four GCSEs at grade 4 or a merit in a level 2/intermediate business course. In addition a minimum of grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths is required.

Assessment

The course is assessed via examinations and assignments (which include written reports, verbal presentations and role plays). Through completing the course you will develop key skills, such as communication, numeracy, IT and independent learning, which are highly valued by employers and universities.

Studying this course allows for progression to university, apprenticeships or employment. It is similar to university courses in terms of how it is assessed; through a combination of assignments and examinations. This gives students the ideal preparation for studying at university.
