BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Performing Arts - Dance at Kingston College

Course description

The course covers all aspects of dance training. It will develop your levels of practical skill, introduce you to new areas of dance, and give you a thorough grounding to the background of dance as well as core business skills. You will have the opportunity to combine theory and practice in an exciting and stimulating way, developing yourself as an individual artist.

The 90 Credit qualification is a one year full-time course and is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels. The natural progression on successful completion is into a second year for completion of a full Extended Diploma; the Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-levels. Some mature students however may choose to progress from the 90 Credit one year course directly into employment or alternative training.

Performing Arts students benefit from access to three purpose built dance studios with sprung floors and mirrors, as well as a dance practice room. Performances take place in our in-house professional theatre.

Students benefit from being involved with a wide range of enrichment projects such as modelling for the fashion show, the hair and make-up show, extra work in films and videos made by our Media students, as well supporting HE performances and taking work to the Kingston International Youth Arts Festival.

Course content

This course focuses on skills for the professional dancer. You will study a range of practical subjects from contemporary and ballet, to urban styles, jazz dance and choreography. This is a practical course underpinned with relevant theory and performing arts business skills.
