Health and Social Care at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

This course is suitable for anyone interested in human healthand care. You will learn how we communicate, support rights anddiversity, ensure health and safety, grow and develop and are affectedby our diets. These are core topics and are relevant to the world ofwork and, indeed, to our everyday lives.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of grade C in GCSE English Language or Literature. Level 2 Health and Social Care is desirable but not essential.


There are a number of qualifications available in this subject, rangingfrom 3 -18 units.
Work Experience in a Health or Social or Care setting is essential in Key Stage 5. You will need 100 hours over two years.

Future opportunities

Health and Social Care is a vocational subject, so it is workbased and will enable you to pursue a career in a health andsocial care environment.
Types of careers include nursing, social work, child care, lookingafter the elderly or the disabled, medicine, child psychology orteaching.
From Level 3 (BTEC National) qualifications students can enteruniversity, begin employment, or complete another level 3qualification in a complimentary or other subject.
