Electronics A Level at Malbank School and Sixth form College

Course description

A Level Electronics has been running at Malbank now for 8 years. In that time there has been some significant successes. The pass rate is running at 99% over the whole period and one student achieved a top 3 mark in the country. The Electronics lab is well equipped and each student receives their own electronics kit to 
take home if they wish to build, experiment and test circuits.

Course content


Unit 1: Introductory Electronics - 
1 Hour Written Paper
Unit 2: Further Electronics - 1 hour written paper
Unit 3: 30 Hour Coursework Project


Unit 4: Programmable Control Systems - 
1 Hour Written Paper
Unit 5: Communication Systems - 1 hour written paper 
Unit 6: 30 Hour Coursework Project

Entry requirements

Grade B in the GCSE Electronic Products Exam or grade B in Science plus grade C in Maths.

Please note that students who achieve a grade B in Electronic products where the majority of the marks were gained through their coursework 
will be considered on a case by case basis as GCSE coursework bear little resemblance to A Level Electronics.

Future opportunities

A Level in Electronics can open up a number of career paths. Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering including the Automotive Industry and Computer Science are just a few examples. A high percentage of engineers go on to work in management in a range of engineering and manufacturing industries.
