Health and Social Care (single) A Level at St Paul's Catholic School

Course description

The health and social care industry is far reaching. It is a sector that has an influence on so many in our society. In fact, it is a sector that will impact on everyone in society at some point in their life.

The reforms in social care will create new types of jobs and ways of working, new career opportunities, and more flexibility both between and across the health and social care sectors.

Course content

In the AS units you will learn about:

Unit 1 Human Growth and Development

Unit 2 Communication and Values

Unit 3 Positive Care Environments.

 

In the A2 units you will learn about:

Unit 7 Meeting Individual Needs

Unit 8 Promoting Health and Wellbeing

Unit 9 Investigating Disease

Entry requirements

5 A*-C GCSE grades or their equivalent.

Assessment

You will have a written examination in the form of a question and answer booklet in Units 1and  7. Each examination will last one hour and 30 minutes. For all other units you will be assessed by coursework.

Future opportunities

The qualification supports progression into further education, training or employment as it offers a mix of both theoretical and vocational learning. This does not mean that it will give you all the skills you need to do a job, but it does mean that you will have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your chosen subject or area of work.
