Sport Level 2 BTEC at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport is a one year, full time, work related course aimed at students who wish to consider a career in the sports or leisure industries. During the course you will undertake visits, exercises, and practical sports experience. You will be expected to participate in a range of challenging sports and classroom based sessions and gain underpinning knowledge related to working in the sports industry.

Course content

The course is practical and is based on work related assignments. During the course you will study: Core units: • Fitness for Sport and Exercise • Practical Sports Performance Mandatory unit: • Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Plus a choice of optional specialist units: • The Mind and Sports Performance • The Sports Performer in Action • Training for Personal Fitness • Leading Sports Activities • Promotion and Sponsorship in Sport • Lifestyle and Well-being • Running a Sports Event • The Sport and Active Leisure Industry • Profiling Sports Performance 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-D including English or maths OR a Level 1 related qualification. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

The qualification is built on two multiple choice examinations and 10 sporting modules.

Financial information

£45.00 for equipment, transport, visits and any other costs.

Future opportunities

The course can lead you onto a career in the fast growing leisure industry in areas such as: • Health Clubs • Leisure/Sports Centres • Private Sport Clubs • Outdoor Pursuit Centres You can also progress onto Sport BTEC Level 3, Sports Science BTEC Level 3 or Personal Training NCFE Level 3. 

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive a Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport and a Functional Skills qualification. 

You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course.
