Brickwork Trowel Trades - Level 2 Diploma at City of Oxford College

Course description

Improve your skills and career prospects in the construction industry with this Level 2 Diploma in Trowel Trades.

Building on the skills and knowledge you learned at Level 1, advance onto bigger practical projects and more advanced theory. This includes setting out and arch projects.

You gain brickwork skills and understand a detailed overview of the construction industry. Functional skills also form part of the course.

Course content

The course ranges from health and safety to mixing and bedding, walling details and ground work.

Entry requirements

Applicants for this Level 2 programme will normally have a Level 1 diploma in Brickwork.

You also need to be ready to study for an additional qualification in English and/or maths. All students have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

You will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment when you apply. You will also be given a tour of the workshop. After the interview you will be informed of the outcome.


Assessment is ongoing throughout the year.

You do practical sessions in the workshops and theory lessons in the classroom.

Financial information

Safety boots or shoes must be worn in the workshop, along with suitable clothes. These items are not provided by the college. We do provide tools.

Future opportunities

This course prepares you for employment and provides further craft training in the construction industry.

Get ready for employment as a work-based learner apprentice in brickwork or complete further study at Level 2.

      • Approach from the city ring Road to the BMW Works roundabout. (Map 2). This roundabout is easy to recognise because it is situated at the heart of the BMW Works area.
      • Turn away from the direction of the city (i.e. right turn if travelling anti-clockwise on the ring road, left turn if travelling clockwise).
      • Proceed along the Garsington Road, Watlington Road, passing through two sets of traffic lights. At the third set opposite Johnson's Home Centre turn right into Cuddesdon Way, the College is a few hundred yards along this road on the left hand side.
