Hospitality and Catering Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at Milton Keynes College

Course description

This is an advanced practical, work-related course which will provide you with a detailed overview of working in the catering and hospitality industry, in food preparation and cooking.

Course content

Within this Apprenticeship framework you will follow one of the following pathways:

Pathway 1 – Professional Cookery

Pathway 2 – Patisserie and Confectionery
Progression into Pathways 1 or 2 will be from a variety of routes including at least 9 months experience of working in a food production or professional cookery role or have completed an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Food Production and Cooking or Professional Cookery. You must also currently be working in an area relevant to the Pathway you wish to follow.

Pathway 3 – Hospitality Supervision and Leadership
Progression into Pathway 3 will be from a minimum of 9 months experience of working in the hospitality industry or completion of a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering. You should also be currently working as a supervisor or manager within the sector.

Entry requirements

To take part in this programme the you will need:
• enthusiasm for the subject
• good communication skills
• the ability to develop team work skills
• experience of working in the hospitality industry
• NVQ 2 in Hospitality and Catering or the relevant experience
• to be in paid employment.


The majority of the programme is assessed in the workplace. However you will be required to attend College 1 day a week, which will normally lead to a qualification which is achieved by completing assignments. You will be allocated a named assessor who will guide and support you throughout your Apprenticeship programme. Your assessor will visit you at least every 4 weeks for assessment or study support purposes. A review will be carried out every twelve weeks or less to identify progress and set new targets.

Future opportunities

Applicants who complete the programme can look forward to progressing to Level 4 HNC in Hospitality Management, or Level 5 HND in Hospitality Management.
