Art & Design BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Art & Design is a nationally recognised qualification that is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels and this can be built on to eventually provide a stepping stone to courses in higher education. It is recommended for those who are want to study a course in one year.

Course content

This course provides opportunities to explore and develop skills in a wide range of art and design processes and materials. The course covers a variety of art and design subjects and may include:

  • Design Principles
  • Drawing Development
  • Ideas & Concepts
  • Materials, Techniques & Processes
  • Visual Communication

During the course you will have the opportunity to specialise in areas such as Photography, Fine Art, Ceramics, Jewellery, Furniture/Product Design, Print or Textiles.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (Grade C or above), it is recommended that one is GCSE English Language, or a relevant Level 2 Diploma with at least a Merit profile or an appropriate equivalent. A portfolio of Art & Design work and satisfactory references are also required.

Financial information

If you are studying on a BTEC programme at college then you will also be required to attend a one or two hour Functional Skills session and a one hour Tutorial session per week. This will give you opportunities to develop and enhance your personal, communication and academic skills, which can then be applied to a wide range of subjects and to areas of employment.

In order to be able to study on this course you will need to buy a range of art equipment, sketchbooks and a portfolio to keep your work in. There is an Art shop within the Arts Centre that stocks the materials and equipment listed above at competitive prices. We can provide at an additional cost the Art Kit Box which includes the essential range of equipment for you to start your course.

During the course you will be required to attend a number of day visits to museums, Exhibitions, other colleges, Universities and, on occasions, residential visits. There will be a cost involved in these visits with the average being around £20 per visit.

Future opportunities

This course will enable you to prepare a portfolio of art and design work and equip you with the necessary skills to seek employment, work within the fields of art and design or progress to further study, on a Higher National Diploma, Foundation degree or eventually a BA degree programme.
