Course description

Content The Certificate in Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) level 3 provides a structure for the development, assessment and accreditation of general and wider key skills, through a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3. The qualification offers imaginative ways of accrediting students’ activities. They allow for a wide range of personal qualities, abilities and achievements of young people, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges. Who is it for? CoPE Level 3 offers students an ideal solution to the accreditation of the wider activities frequently undertaken as a central part of the post-16 experience. Structure Students choose challenges from the following six modules: • Active Citizenship • Work Related Activities • Career Planning • Global Awareness • Enrichment Activities • Extended Project Students gain credits for challenges completed, with two credits awarded for 20 hours of activity, three credits for 30 hours and five credits for 50 hours. Students must gain a minimum of 15 credits to complete the full qualification, choosing challenges from at least three modules. Students produce a portfolio of evidence, which should demonstrate competence in the Wider Key Skills (Working with Others, Improving Own Learning and Performance and Problem Solving) and the units Planning and Carrying Out Research, Communicating through Discussion and Planning and Giving an Oral Presentation. Assessment Students' produce a portfolio of evidence which will be internally and externally moderated.

Entry requirements

We welcome applications from motivated and appropriately qualified students. To apply for a place in the sixth form you should be: 1. In full time and continuous education 2. No older than 16 at the start of your courses 3. Resident in the UK or have appropriate diplomatic status 4. Able to show evidence of good attendance, positive behaviour and work ethic as shown in the reference part of the application form 5. Able to demonstrate you will meet the entry requirements.

Future opportunities

CoPE at Level 3 has recognition from UCAS and is worth 70 UCAS points (roughly equivalent to an A grade at AS Level).
