Further Mathematics A level at Falmouth School

Course description

Further Mathematics is for the student who really enjoys solving problems, has gained at least a Grade 7 at GCSE and sees the beauty in mathematical studies. As its name suggests it studies those areas of maths met in A Level and takes them further. Students will study further techniques in both pure and applied mathematics including concepts such as complex numbers, matrices, vectors and harmonic motion. Students following the Further Mathematics course will concurrently be undertaking the Mathematics course. It is not possible to study Further Maths on its own.

Future opportunities

A Further Mathematics qualification is the gateway to many well-paid and very interesting careers. It is regarded as almost essential for degrees in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering although other areas include finance, actuarial work, accountancy, financial modelling, investment banking; computing, games design, internet security, telecommunications; mathematical biology, population modelling, epidemics and vaccination; engineering, aircraft modelling, fluid flows, acoustic engineering, quantity surveyor, planner; teaching and lecturing; statistics – medical statistics, market research, government statistics; business – logistics, traffic planning, project management.
