Sport - BTEC First Diploma in Sport at St James's C E High School

Course description

The Btec first Diploma in Sports Science is a work-related course which is made up of projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It will introduce pupils to the demands of the sports and leisure industry and provides an excellent stepping-stone towards more advanced work-based qualifications. It is equivalent to four GCSEs. Pupils following this course study it for six hours each week. Potential students must be aware that the vast majority of the time is spent in the classroom; the amount of practical work involved is very limited. Pupils study five assessed units chosen from the 12 available, each involving 60 hours of teaching. There is no final examination; pupils use a variety of media for presenting their work, ranging from old fashioned pen and paper to PowerPoint presentations and newsletters.
