Chemistry GCSE at Walsall College

Course description

GCSE Chemistry provides the basis for studying A-level Chemistry or a general background for those wanting to specialise in one or more separate sciences. It is a modern course that will stimulate students' interest in how science works.

The course is split into units, which cover topics such as:

  • Controlling the rates of chemical reactions
  • Making polymers and ethanol from oil
  • How rocks provide building materials
  • Humans and the effect we have on the environment

Entry requirements

Students are required to hold Literacy Level 1. Candidates will also undertake a subject specific assessment.

Assessment

3 examinations (May, June), long answer questions and a practical assessment (January).

Future opportunities

Firm foundation for progression to AS and A level Chemistry.
