Course description

Students will learn about fashion and textiles and also develop their practical skills in fashion design, drawing, pattern cutting, textiles, garment construction and accessories covering a range of units. Students will be involved in producing a garment for the Annual Shrewsbury College Fashion Show. Students will also receive grounding in traditional art & design methods and the history of art. Life drawing is also studied to support fashion illustration. Drawing is intrinsic to the design process as is an openness to explore other art disciplines when researching.The course involves visits to relevant exhibitions & galleries including the Clothes Show.Additional CostsStudents will be expected to pay for the materials used to develop their fashion ideas and a detailed list will be provided. A contribution towards educational visits may also be requested.

Entry requirements

At Least five GCSE's with a Grade D or above. Ideally, applicants will have a GCSE grade C or above in English. You should also possess a clear enthusiasm for Fashion.Who is it for? / What can I do after the course?This exciting creative programme provides a nationally recognised qualification equivalent to 4 GCSE’s for those interested in a career in the Fashion industries. The course will equip students with knowledge and understanding of the different areas of study in fashion such as design, illustration, pattern cutting, garment construction and textiles. The course will build the practical skills to develop design ideas into three dimensional clothing which will be included in the annual Fashion Show and develop a portfolio for future progression.
