Drama and Theatre A Level at St Ivo School

Course description

This specification is designed for students who enjoy all aspects of drama: reading and watching plays; editing and performing published plays; studying the great stylists and theatre practitioners and developing a devised piece in their chosen practitioner’s style. A Level Drama and Theatre is assessed in terms of its performance potential; you will also go to see a number of live productions and write a review of each play in performance, reflecting on all aspects of the production. The written unit requires the study of set play texts in performance. The practical units require students to present a devised performance in the style of a renowned theatre company or practitioner and perform extracts from published plays.

Course content

Drama and Theatre is an exciting and challenging course which mixes study of the great drama practitioners and plays with a wealth of practical work – devising drama and performing well-known pieces of theatre. Students are given opportunities to: • Perform scripted and devised drama • Evaluate performers and designers of theatre productions.
