Culinary Skills Level 2 Diploma at West Herts College
Take your love of food to the next step and develop your skills in the kitchen. You’ll need to be enthusiastic and energetic. We’ll give you the skills across a range of food preparation and cooking techniques, developing your knowledge ready for a career in the catering industry.
You’ll be developing a whole range of skills across the kitchen including:
Preparing and cooking stocks, soups, sauces, fish, shellfish, meat, fruit and vegetables
Producing biscuit, cake and sponges
Learning about catering operations, costs and menu planning
You’ll learn to create recipes and menus, cover the essentials of food safety, health and hygiene standards, and the importance of producing healthier dishes.
Plus you’ll develop:
Practical English and maths skills for weighing, measuring and changing recipes
Skills for working life on GAP work placements
3 GCSEs (A*-D), or successful completion of the Level 1 programme, plus interview.
Progress to the Level 3 qualification. Or start work straightaway in a junior position across the sector from cafes to clubs and contract catering.
