Hairdressing Level 3 Apprenticeship at Havering College of Further and Higher Education

Course description

The course provides you with the opportunity to gain experience and obtain an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing.

As well as the related Hairdressing units, you will also complete a short qualification in Employer rights and responsibilities, Personal learning and thinking skills and Functional Skills in maths and English at a minimum of Level 2.

Hairdressing Units include:

  • G22 Health and Safety,
  • G21 Consultation,
  • GH16 Cutting,
  • GH17 Colouring,
  • GH18 Colour correction,
  • GH19 Creative styling,
  • GH20 Dress long hair,
  • GH21 Creativity and photo-shoot,
  • G18 Promoting additional products and services.

Entry requirements

Initially, you will be required to attend an interview and we will need a good reference. You would need to sit an online target skills test prior to enrolment. We expect excellent attendance and punctuality throughout your course. You should also have completed level 2 NVQ in hairdressing. As well as being successful with the above, you will also need to seek employment in a hairdressing salon. The salon will be subject to some approval checks and must be prepared to offer you an apprenticeship place.

Assessment

Assessments are continuous throughout the two years. You are required to produce a portfolio containing evidence of practical and theory work. You will also complete online exams for each unit. Practical assessments will take place within a realistic working environment at College and also in the salon with an external assessor.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed this qualification, you will be able to apply to complete a variety of short courses at level 4. These courses can be related to hairdressing specifically, as well as to the Hair and Beauty sector in general.

You will be able to work as a competent stylist in a hairdressing salon, You may choose to work freelance or join a spa, hotel group, cruise liner, TV or theatre.
