A Level has a personal investigation unit with a 3,000 word essay leading into practical work. This is 40%. The externally set assignment is given out in February with eight weeks of preparation leading to a 15 hour exam. All work is marked internally and moderated by AQA exam board. Success in this subject is measured by the students’ response to and evidence of AQA’s 4 assessment objectives for Art & Design

Entry requirements

The minimum qualification for entry into the Sixth Form is 5 4 grades including Maths and English, although there are specific entry requirements for some of our option subjects.

A student’s suitability for their chosen subjects will also be taken into account, even if they meet the 5 4 grades threshold.

Applicants will need to have a proven record of good or excellent effort and attendance in Year 11 in order to qualify for a place, verified by a suitable reference.

Photography is assessed by providing evidence for AQA’s 4 art and design assessment objectives. Each objective is marked equally, both coursework and exam are marked against this specification.

Future opportunities

Photography is a full A level course which can lead into a number of further and higher education Art and Design Courses.
