Veterinary Nursing - Level 3 Diploma (RCVS) at HARTPURY COLLEGE

Course description

IMPORTANT: You can study this Level 3 Diploma only if you are currently employed by an RCVS-Approved Training Practice as this is a work-based programme.  If you are not employed in a practice, you will not be able to enrol on the course.

If you want to start a career in veterinary nursing then this specialist course will lead to registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and enable you to practice as a Veterinary Nurse.  Small animal and equine pathways are both available.
 

Course content

You will gain the veterinary nursing knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective practice, and develop your skills of enquiry and reflection that are essential to lifelong professional learning and development. This course provides a combination of theoretical and practical teaching from our experienced and established veterinary nursing team.

Structure

Year 1:-

 

  • Understanding the operational requirements of a veterinary practice
  • Professional relationships and communication for veterinary nursing practice
  • Comparative functional anatomy for veterinary nursing practice
  • Applied animal welfare, health and husbandry for veterinary nurses
  • Infection control in veterinary practice
  • Understanding the essentials of veterinary nurse care for hospitalised animals
  • Essentials of practical veterinary nursing care for hospitalised animals
  • Supporting veterinary operating theatre practice
  • Principles of supporting veterinary anaesthesia
  • Preparing for professional registration

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English, Mathematics, Science or a relevant further education qualification such as ABC Level 2 Certificate in Animal Nursing.

You must be 16 years old or over and work within an RCVS Approved Training Practice before applying for this course.
