Hair and Media Make Up Level 2 Diploma at Preston's College

Hair and media is an exciting industry to work in – you could be working in a local salon, for the BBC or Hollywood Studios with the right training and skills. And that’s what you’ll get from us. You will learn from industry experienced tutors who know what employers are looking for.
You will also have guest stylist demonstrations, trips and competition opportunities.
You will learn the basic hair and beauty skills needed to work in the salon as a junior stylist performing your own salon services. You will study:
– Health & Safety
– The art of dressing hair
– Preparing for services
– The art of make-up (photographic and apply)
– Prepare and maintain salon areas
– Basic colouring techniques
– Body art design
– Client consultation
– Shampoo and condition hair
There are also optional units in assisting in salon reception duties, creating an image based on a theme, the art of colouring hair. You will also study maths and English.
You need four GCSE’s at grade D or above including English and maths. You will also need good people, communication and dexterity skills as well as the desire to work with the general public in a professional manner.

You may be expected to provide some of your own clients for assessments and complete tasks to commercial time scales.
Preston College Course: Level 2 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty Therapy, Level 2 Nail Technology or Level 3 Theatrical & Special Effects Diploma
Apprenticeship: Level 2 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Nail Technology.
Employment: Junior stylist, or make-up consultant
