Environmental Studies AS Level at Harrow College
The Environmental Studies course covers the two subjects Biology and Chemistry. The course enables students to gain a deep and well-informed insight into the environment, and the scientific processes that control and affect it. The central theme is the development of an understanding of how different events and cycles within the environment interrelate, how they influence subsequent environmental events, the human impacts on these events and cycles, and the strategies that can be used to minimise the problems caused.
You will cover three key aspects within the specification such as ‘Wildlife Conservation’, ‘Pollution’, ‘Global Climate Change’ and ‘Sustainability’.
Theory supported by a large element of practical work.
6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language and at least 2 grades at A/B. For Science/Additional Science a grade CC or above is required.
There is no course work for AS level. The qualification is assesed at AS Level -by sitting 2 exam papers. Successful completion of the exam will lead to a certificate awarded by AQA.

This course provides a suitable qualification for progression to A2 Environmental Studies. It can also help gain direct entry to employment in the scientific or related sectors.
Equipment or materials:
You should expect to provide yourself with all standard stationary, writing materials and folders. You will also need a calculator.
