Course content

This Advanced Apprenticeship in Business and Administration will help secure a work placement through Croydon College (if you don’t have one already) giving you the opportunity to continue earning while learning.

Just a few of the course highlights include:

  • You will shadow the best administrators in your field. Eric, who successfully completed this programme in 2014 got the opportunity to shadow the CEO of Croydon University Hospital, thanks to his tutors! He said: “It was excellent experience getting to know what a CEO does every day from leading meetings to taking telephone calls from the media.”

  • The programme’s tutors have considerable experience and have worked within the administrative industry; they offer a wide range of knowledge, expertise and skills.

  • You will benefit from gaining a qualification which is widely recognised both nationally and internationally after studying for one-two years as well as having the opportunity to show potential employers that you have solid training and direct work experience behind you.

  • The College’s Apprenticeship Team and Employability Hub offer careers information, advice and guidance during and after the programme.

  • Great earning potential - research shows that apprentices earn, on average, over £100,000 more throughout their career than other employees (NAS, 2013).

  • The chance to boost your work skills - a Department for Business, Innovation and Skill survey showed that qualified apprentices score 4% higher on employability measures than university graduates (ICM Survey, 2013).

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or higher, one being English or maths or a related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a Pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results can also be considered).

This Level 3 Business and Administration qualification has five mandatory units, three of which are assessed via multiple choice on-line exams.

The workplace assessments are always planned in advance and undertaken in the familiar surroundings of the apprentice’s workplace; therefore the apprentice will be aware of the assessment topic.

Future opportunities

Further study options include progressing on to a Higher Apprenticeship in Business and Administration at the College or a business degree at our University Centre, both of which you can continue to combine with full time work.

Many Croydon College students continue or begin working full-time for small, medium and large organisations such as local councils and the NHS in job roles such as:

  • Secretary

  • Receptionist

  • Administrator

  • Office supervisor

  • Team leader
