• Non-exam assessment: crafting language (20% of qualification)

Entry requirements

You will need five GCSEs at Grades A*-C/9-4 including English and mathematics, and Grade B/6 or above in a related subject.


Assessment is ongoing through homework assignments as well as verbal feedback and discussion during classroom based activities.

Work is marked according to the course mark schemes and assigned guideline grades to enable students to chart their progress.

Some work is completed through timed assignments to enable students to practice exam skills with time constraints.

Future opportunities

Upon completing this course you will be equipped to progress to university, a higher apprenticeship or into work. English Language is an ideal first step in the study of arts and humanities subjects, or English Language and Literature.

A qualification in English language can lead to careers such as: advertising, journalism, publishing, TV, radio and film, events management, and creative writing.
