Automotive Engineering Apprenticeships at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Course description

The Automotive Retail Industry provides employment for around twenty three thousand people in Wales and is a major contributor to the economy.

Foundation apprentices (Level 2) will train as Service Technicians/Technicians, learning how to test and repair a range of vehicles.

Apprentices (Level 3) will train as Diagnostic Technicians or Advanced Technicians learning how to diagnose, test and repair a range of vehicles.

Higher apprentices (Level 4) will train as Master/Senior Technicians or Workshop Controllers in both a management and hands on role, supervising Service and Diagnostic Technicians.

Course content

The technical training is provided in the college 1 day per week including time in practical workshops.

Entry requirements

All Apprentices must have an employer who can cover the NVQ criteria. Must be working in a garage that will cover the NVQ criteria.


An apprenticeship is assessed as follows:

  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence
  • Work based observations
  • Theory based tasks and tests

Future opportunities

You can progress from: 

Foundation Apprenticeship Level 2 to an Apprenticeship Level 3.
