Perform as a soloist and/ or part of an ensemble on any instrument or voice for between 5/6 minutes

Compose a piece of music lasting 3 minutes in response to a chosen brief.

This unit focuses on listening to familiar music and understanding how it works. You study set works and learn to understand important musical features and their historical context. You also learn to identify harmonic and tonal features and then apply this knowledge in the completion of a short simple passage for SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass).

Further Musical Understanding (40%)
Perform as a soloist and/ or part of an ensemble on any instrument or voice for between 12/15 minutes. Compose 2 pieces of music lasting 3 minutes in response to a chosen brief.
This unit focuses on listening to familiar music and understanding how it works. You study set works and learn to understand important musical feature, context and / or elements of continuity and change.

Entry requirements

We strongly recommend you receive instrumental tuition and are able to perform on your chosen instrument / voice at approximately grade 5 standard.
