Health and Social Care A Level at St Mary's Menston, a Catholic voluntary academy

Course description

The Health and Social Care course leads to A2 qualification. It is A level study with a combination of exams and coursework. The Health and Social Care single award course is specifically aimed at students who wish to pursue a career within the caring services; particularly care work within hospitals and early years’ services. The course gives students the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of health and social care including communication skills, providing quality care and promoting health issues. During the A2 year there is also the opportunity for students to learn about the planning and provision of local health and care services, anatomy and physiology and development throughout childhood. Students will have an opportunity to put theory into practice through completing practical projects. These include running a health promotion and designing a learning aid for a child. Students will also be required to complete practical projects as part of their course assessment. Previous projects have included healthy diet, exercise and stop smoking campaigns. Students who have studied A level Health and Social Care have gone on to study mental health nursing, midwifery, teaching, social work, criminology, sociology and psychology.
