General Construction Operations Level 2 Apprenticeship at Middlesbrough College
Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within the College. This is a qualification that tests both practical and knowledge based skills. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required within the General construction operations. Topics covered are as follows:- Health and Safety Legislation, Practices and Procedures Laying Domestic Drainage Constructing Foundations and slabs Constructing Pathways Planned onsite visits will also be arranged to assess your progress. The Apprentice National Minimum Wage applies to all 16 to 18 year old Apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the Apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship, the employer must pay the National Minimum Wage appropriate for their age. You must be employed within the Construction Industry or have the potential to obtain access to a real work setting where they can demonstrate practical occupational competence to the requirements of the units consistently over time. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
The assessments for this qualification consist of a mix of practical, online multiple choice, written and on-site assessments carried out throughout the two year period.
On completion of this qualification you may decide to specialise in aspects of the general construction operations or progress onto a Trowel Trade Occupation.
