A levels are changing for 2015. As a result changes may be made to the Physics Course prior to September 2015. If you apply and are offered a place at BOA you will be provided with full course information before you make your decision on any additional studies.
What will I learn?
The KS5 Physics course is designed around developing your knowledge of physics, your practical skills and your understanding of the way physicists work. We will give you opportunities to see how physics is used in the world of work and in other areas of your studies. You will have opportunities to use ICT for modelling and research purposes and to use our extensive range of practical equipment.
How is the course structured?
There are 8 core topics covered during the course:
- Measurements and their errors
- Particles and radiation
- Mechanics and materials
- Further mechanics and thermal physics
- Fields and their consequences
- Nuclear physics
In addition one option topic will be studied from the following list:
- Medical physics
- Engineering physics
- Turning points in physics
How will I study?
Activities will include group work, discussion, investigation and practical study. We suggest that for every lesson completed, time is spent reviewing the work and finishing exercises at home.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by three exams, one covering the first five topics, one covering the final three topics and a final exam focussing on practical techniques, analysis and the option topic. In addition a separate practical skills mark will be awarded based on practical work carried out throughout the course.
