Art & Design (Fine Art) AS/A2 Level at Havelock Academy

Course description



Students develop knowledge and skills through the study of four assessment objectives:

  • Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
  • Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
  • Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
  • Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.


Course content



Students produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas, including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking, moving image and photography.


Entry requirements


Grade C (or above) in GCSE Art. Four other GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and maths



Various assessments over 2 years.

Future opportunities



The many and varied fields encompassed by Art, History of Art, Design, Graphics and the Media, leading to careers in any of the creative industries including art, media and design professions.
