Art and Design (A2) at Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School

Course description

AS and A2 units and content: 4 units of work – 2 units at AS level, 2 units at A2 level. AS Unit 1 involves the development of work from direct observation, including drawing with a variety of materials and media to produce a final piece or pieces. Unit 2 externally set assignment, building on experiences gained in Unit 1. A2 Unit 3 A personal investigation in which students develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their own, covering aspects of fine art, printed textiles. Unit 4 externally set assignment, building on experiences gained throughout the course, specialising in a focused area.

Entry requirements

A grade B or above in GCSE Art and Design is required.

Future opportunities

This course will give you the qualifications you need to progress to further education and higher education. Many students have continued to achieve success in a wide variety of careers such as textiles, fashion graphics, architecture, photography, teaching and in the retail business and many more.You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as History of Art to prepare for higher education in areas of art and design, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior or Fashion Designer. The course will also encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
