Course description

Geography These Geography AS/A2 levels are based on the two principles of the people - environment approach to Geography and the enquiry approach to learning. People - environment Geography is based on the examination of questions, issues and problems that arise from the interaction of people with their varied environments. The enquiry approach to learning is based on the understanding that the most effective forms of learning are invoked when students are actively engaged in enquiry into questions, issues and problems. Changing landforms and their management Managing change in human environments An Environmental Investigation, based on a fieldwork investigation where students undertake primary data collection in a group and follow this with an individual write up. Tested by two structured data-response questions at the end of year.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B or above in Humanities or C in Geography

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE, which could lead onto higher education to study geography, other areas of humanities, science or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to geography such as a Town Planner, Environmental Officer or Weather Forecaster. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for. You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Travel and Tourism or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE, which could lead onto higher education in areas of geography, humanities, science or more general higher education courses.
