English Literature - A Level (WJEC) at HARTPURY COLLEGE

Course description

If you enjoy reading a wide range of novels, poems and plays, and writing essays about them, then read on. You must be prepared and motivated to do a great deal of reading in your own time and ready to share your critical ideas with the other students in your lecture group. This subject will help you become a well informed and effective communicator and an independent thinker.

Entry requirements

General A-level entry requirements: Five GCSEs at grade A*-C, which must include English Language, Mathematics and Science.

To study A-level English Literature you will need: Grade B or above in both GCSE English Language and English Literature.

Financial information

Students under 19 years of age on 31 August 2015: Tuition is free for the duration of your course (full-time courses only). Educational visits charge: An annual £65 fee is payable for all Further Education students and covers the cost of outside visits, the engagement of special speakers and a contribution to the cost of administration.

Further information

English Literature relates well to all other A-level subjects: it is the perfect complement to subjects such as History, Psychology and English Language, but also sits well alongside the science A-levels, especially if you are considering medicine or veterinary science.

The skills you acquire through English Literature will enable you to consider a range of degree courses and a range of career paths in areas such as journalism or other branches of the media, education, law or practically any profession where you need to read thoughtfully and express yourself clearly and fluently in writing and in speech.
