BTEC Deloitte Cambridge Nationals at Newquay Tretherras School
The One Year programme at Newquay Tretherras is designed to offer students the best possible opportunity to prepare for study at Level 3. It offers the opportunity to work in a nurturing and carefully designed environment, over the course of one year. Throughout the year, students will study:
- BTEC Level 2 Travel and Tourism
- BTEC Level 2 Sport
- BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care
- Deloittes Preparation for Employment
- Cambridge Nationals ICT
- Any retake subjects required.
Students typically work in smaller groups, presenting them with the opportunity to develop their skills over the course of the year in order to progress on to Level 3 upon completion.
Due to the variety of courses on offer, students will study numerous subject areas including Preparation for Work, The Travel and Tourism Industry, Appropriate Techniques in Health and Social Care, and Training for Personal Fitness. All of the above are Level 2 courses.
Students are expected to have a minimum of 5 D grades at GCSE.
Students will be subject to a variety of assessment methods throughout the duration of the course, with one exam for each of their portfolio subjects, and the remainder of their work being assessed through coursework units. Students will receive appropriate support throughout the course, with continuous assessment taking place to ensure all students are on track to succeed.
We understand that some students need an introduction into Level 3 courses, and the One Year course is designed to do exactly that. Whilst at 6th Form level, students receive far more guidance and support due to the nature of their courses, allowing them a gentle introduction to life at Post 16, and equally, providing them with the necessary qualifications to move onto Level 3 courses.
Expectations on the One Year course are high, and students are expected to follow the guidelines set out throughout their time with us. For the Deloitte course on a Monday, students are expected to arrive in “business like” dress, and are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner as if in a work place. 100% attendance is expected from students on the courses, as well as ensuring they meet deadlines set for coursework, and independent study assignments.
of the Classroom
Outside of the classroom, students are expected to develop their own understanding of the world of business, and keep up to date with basic elements of current affairs in order to feed into their learning. Students are also encouraged to seek out work placements as and where needed to provide them with the necessary experience to move into the world of work.
