Business (Applied) at The Marlborough School

Course description

Investigating Business - you will explore business aims and objectives, the needs of customers and how these are met. You will investigate how businesses deal with competition from other businesses, and how external factors, such as changing social values, can affect business. You will also explore the meaning of enterprise behaviour and why individuals and teams are vital to the success of a business.

People in Business - You will study the roles and responsibilities of people in business and the qualities an employer looks for in his or her employees. You will investigate the training and development opportunities available to individuals and why motivation is vital in retaining staff.

Financial Planning and Monitoring - In this section you will explore business costs, revenues and hence profits, and how managers use this information when making decisions. You willinvestigate the ways in which businesses raise finance and monitor their performance.The A-level course gives you pathways to specialise in specific business areas e.g. Marketing, Finance, Human Resources or Administration. You are also required to research and preparea proposal for a business venture that could be launched.

Entry requirements

GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C or above
