Course description

A Level Biology is a fascinating and diverse subject which will develop your understanding of the processes which underpin all life on the planet. Rapid developments in genetics mean that there has never been a better time to study this subject. You will be well placed to take advantage of the many new career opportunities in the life sciences and biotechnology.

Course content

 

AS Biology Year includes:

  • Biology and disease
  • The variety of living organisms
  • Investigative and practical skills in biology

A2 Biology Year includes:

  • Populations and environment
  • Control in cells and in organisms
  • Investigative and practical skills in biology

Entry requirements

 

Double Award Science* at higher tier (grade B or above) or GCSE Biology plus either GCSE Chemistry or GCSE Physics (grade B or above). GCSE Maths (grade C or above)

*This must be Core and Additional Science. Students who have taken Core and Applied Science will not be qualified to take this course and should consider one of the BTEC Applied Science courses instead. We strongly advise you take AS Biology with AS Chemistry (many Biology courses at university require Chemistry).

Exams and practical assignments (100% exam based – no coursework)

Exam board: AQA
