Geography A Level at Upton Court Grammar School

Course description

A level Geography develops your understanding of Human Geography and Physical Geography. Human Geography deals with how people and the environment interact. Physical Geography is about exploring the natural aspects of our world, such as tectonics and how we can seek manage them. Geographical skills develops your analytical, statistical and fieldwork skills.


For students starting in September 2016, Geography is a Phase Two A Level subject and therefore all information about the new A Level course is correct as of November 2015 ( new A Level specifications due for approval in early 2016). We plan to follow the new AQA A Level course with the new syllabus being split equally between Human Geography (40% of the A Level course ), Physical Geography (40%) and will also include a Geographical Investigation (20%) which is based upon fieldwork in a topic of interest to you that has been independently planned, analysed and undertaken. In Physical Geography you will explore how the landscape has been formed by physical processes from rivers to tectonic processes. In Human Geography you will investigate a range of topics inclu ding how globalisation is shaping our modern world and the pressures of global population growth.
