Chemistry A level at Burnside Business and Enterprise College

Course description

The Science department is a dynamic and creative team who seek to provide lessons that engage, enthuse and offer opportunity to develop knowledge and transferrable skills (for life in school and beyond). There is a broad and balanced curriculum offer in Science and as a consequence we seek to offer personalised pathways that suit the needs of learners, therefore staff members teach across the age and ability range and whilst mostly in their specialist areas there is expectation that staff teach a second Science subject.

Science is taught in 12 fully equipped and well-designed science laboratories with full ICT access and suitable for all Science lesson formats in Block 3. In addition the department has a large well-appointed and well-equipped office/resources room, which is the centre of the Science department for all staff and students. All teaching rooms are equipped with ceiling data projectors and interactive whiteboards and practical equipment.

Entry requirements

The general entry requirement is 5 A* - C full GCSE/BTEC courses, including English Language and Mathematics at grade C or higher.

BTEC qualifications will only count as 1 GCSE. If more than 1 BTEC (level 2) is studied, only the best will count towards the overall points score.  GCSE short courses will not be counted.

Further information

We as a team believe in extending the science community at Burnside and as a very collaborative and competitive team we like to act as positive role models to students and encourage enthusiasm in lessons and in an extra- curricular Science context. As a consequence our extra-curricular offer is vast and all staff members participate fully.
