Design and Technology - Product Design A Level at Ysgol Y Strade

Course description

Advanced Subsdiary (AS) course units.
The AS is the first half of the Advanced course. It will contribute 50% of the total Advanced marks. Candidates must complete two units (DT1 & DT2) in order to gain an AS qualification.
Advanced Level (A2) course units.
The Advanced course consists of 2 parts: Part 1 (AS) and Part 2 (A2). Candidates must complete the AS units outlined above plus a further 2 units (DT3 & DT4) to complete A level Design and Technology. The A2 units will contribute 50% of the total Advanced mark.

Entry requirements

There is no specific requirement for prior learning, although many candidates will have already gained a knowledge and understanding of Design and Technology through their study of a GCSE.

Assessment

DT1: Examination 2hr

DT2: Asessment 40hr

DT3: Examination 2.5 hr

DT4: Major Project 60hr

Future opportunities

The course offers an unique opportunity in the curriculum for candidates to identify and solve real problems by designing and making products or systems in a wide range of contexts relating to their personal interests. Design and Technology develops candidates’ interdisciplinary skills and their capacity for imaginative, innovative thinking, creativity and independence.
