Art and Design AS/A2 at Rednock School

Course description

Have you ever wondered why so many creative people are successful in many different walks of life?

Creativity isn't only about pursuing artistic interests, it can also open the door to exciting career opportunities for students and is a highly employable attribute in all walks of life.

Through AS and A-level Art and Design, you will develop and stimulate your creativity through a broad and exciting course. Students explore a range of different media, processes or techniques, ensuring that there is something suitable for all interests. You will develop your ability to appreciate the visual world and to respond in a creative and personal way, expanding your imaginative and creative powers, your experimental, analytical and documenting skills. You will also develop a specialist vocabulary, knowledge and an understanding of the place of art and design in history and in contemporary society.

Entry requirements

The A level builds on the skills knowledge and understanding acquired by students who have taken Art at GCSE. A ‘B’ grade or above at GCSE is usually a prerequisite of the AS/A Level course as it is expected that students will have developed sufficient understanding and skill before embarking on the course.
A minimum grade of a ‘C’ or above in English at GCSE is also required to start this course.
