Spanish AS A2 at Northampton School for Girls
Spanish offers the opportunity to take your language skills further. The subject mixes many teaching methods and topics to offer a fun and interesting course. At NSG taking Spanish to AS level gives you the prospect of developing Spanish for the world of work and studying the media, current issues, arts, advertising, culture and society.
What you will do Work in a variety of ways - in pairs develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.All the information studied is based on contemporary society in Spain and Spanish speaking countries.
Your qualifications should include a minimum of a grade B in Spanish at GCSE
AS Level Units. Unit 1 - Oral. Unit 3 - Written paper including listening. Unit 4 - Written paperA2 Level Units. Unit 5 - Oral. Unit 7 - Written paper including listening. Unit 8/9 - essay on chosen topic or coursework essays.
Optional - a dictionary, visits abroad, the newspaper 'Authentik'
Future prospects· You may wish to go on and study languages at university or alternatively combine one language with another subject.· You may prefer to use your language skills as part of a business or commercial course at there are many areas in business and tourism where languages are an asset. You may also like the idea of having a year working abroad - perhaps taking on seasonal work in the tourist industry, or as an au-pair, with a family.· Learning a foreign language gives you confidence and scope for a wide range of challenging opportunities.It can be very useful for international banking or law, teaching and the Civil Service.
Student comment"You can really see progress as you look back over work. However you need to be completely committed as you cover grammar in more depth, the reading activities require more vocabulary and it is more difficult than GCSE. However, I enjoy the content of the course and the grammar (which is an odd thing to say)!
