BTEC Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) Level 3 Diploma at Nicholas Hamond Academy

Course description


The course is suitable for students who would prefer to take a coursework based qualification rather than the A level PE. This is particularly suitable for students who wish to pursue careers in Sports Development, coaching or fitness and combined with other A Levels and/ or BTECs it will allow you to progress to higher education. There will be opportunities for work experience and to complete coaching certificate(s).

Course content


Year 1 – Units such as:

  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology
  • The Physiology of fitness
  • Assessing Risk in Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Year 2 – Units such as:

  • Fitness Training and Programming
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and exercise
  • Practical Individual Sports
  • Work Experience in Sport

Entry requirements


C grade or above in English and Maths. Ideally students will have achieved a B grade (or equivalent) in Btec Sport Level 2 or GCSE PE.
