Travel and Tourism BTEC at Shoreham Academy

Course description

Year 1

  • Unit 1: Investigating the travel and tourism sector
  • Unit 3: The UK as a destination
  • Unit 4: Customer service in travel and tourism

Year 2

  • Unit 2: The business of travel and tourism
  • Unit 6: Preparing for employment in travel and tourism
  • Unit 8: Long haul travel destinations

Units 1 to 4 are mandatory units. Units 6 and 8 come from a choice of several units. All units must be complete.

For Unit 3 students will engage in practical role plays to demonstrate their customer service skills.

For Unit 6 students will complete CVs, letters of application and application forms and will also undertake an interview so they can demonstrate practical skills.

For Unit 1 students undertake a trip to Brighton so they can learn about Brighton as a tourist destination.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE A*-C which must include either Maths or English.


This course is assessed by 100% coursework which is internally marked and externally verified.

Students must complete all units of work and meet deadlines in order to pass the course.

The course is graded with pass, merit, distinction and distinction* which appear on reports as: P M D D*

Future opportunities

University to study travel related or other subjects, working for travel agents or tour operators or other travel related jobs.
