IT Users and Computer Games Development - BTEC Level 1 Certificate at Harrow College

Course description

Students who have a real interest in ICT or game development and who are looking to progress to higher levels or who wish to gain a first level qualification before moving on to full-time work.

Course content

This course is intended as a practical programme providing an insight into the world of ICT and an introduction to game development. There are a range of units covering different aspects of IT software and an introduction to game development. All learners will study Functional Skills in English and Maths if required.

Entry requirements

Minimum 4 GCSE grades at F or above and/or a pass at Entry Level 3 plus interview and initial assessment. Evidence of Entry 2 Literacy and Numeracy is required.


Through written course-work assignments, some oral presentations in class. Successful completion of the course will lead to certificates awarded by Edexcel and the SQA.

Future opportunities

A pass at the BTEC Level 1 qualification and passes at E3 Functional Skills English and Maths can lead to the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT.

Equipment or materials:

You should expect to provide yourself with all standard stationery and writing materials and folders for submission of coursework (details will be provided at the start of the course), plus a memory stick.
