Diploma in Business and Administration Level 3 (QCF) at York Learning - City of York Council
What is Administration?
Administration is concerned with the paperwork involved in running a business office. This may include data input, letters, filing, photocopying and handling enquiries from customers and clients. The roles available include office junior, clerical assistant, administration assistant and receptionist. For those who are successful their career can lead to supervisory and management positions.
Who is the learning for?
Whether you are new to Administration, or are already established within the industry; by learning you can improve your abilities and develop your understanding. Learning doesn’t only give you the basics for doing the job but also prepares you to meet new challenges when they arise. York Learning offers a variety of employment opportunities to support your learning, and NVQ Functional Skills Qualifications and Technical Certificates. Through this learning you will achieve nationally recognised qualifications which will help you move towards more responsibility and grow to achieve more senior posts in the industry over time.
York Learning works in partnership with employers across the York and North Yorkshire area. We match your skills and interests with employer requirements and, providing you both agree, your learning and employment can begin at the same time. If you are already employed then a learning assessment can be arranged and you can join an appropriate programme.
You do not need any previous experience to start learning and for those with experience there are opportunities to start at a higher level qualification.
Can I do this area of work?
No-one starts out with all the skills required but they do start with the right attitude. If you answer "yes" to all, or most of the following questions, then Administration could well be suited to you: Am I:
- smart in appearance?
- able to work under pressure?
- willing to be flexible?
- interested in computers?
- honest and reliable?
- willing to help people?
- good with the telephone?
- committed to personal development and learning?
- able and willing to make the tea?
- willing to take responsibility?
- willing to identify change?
You must be working in a supervisory capacity or supporting others by having specific areas of responsibility.
A Trainer/Assessor will visit you at work to help you and to ensure you are supported throughout your programme. This includes initial visits to make sure you fully understand the NVQ qualification you are working towards, what to do, and how your work will be assessed against nationally recognised standards.
The course offers you a specialist work-based qualification to support a range of careers in business and administration or to progress onto studying for an NVQ level 4 in business and administration or an HND in a related subject such as hospitality management. With further training, you could continue to develop your career in business and administration by getting a job within marketing, finance or human resources.
The course is work based which means you can earn and learn whilst developing basic business skills, understanding and knowledge, which many employers and are looking for. York has a growing business community, with new investment in office space being made around the area.
