Travel and Tourism at Cheam High School

Course description

When we think of the term ‘travel and tourism’ different ideas spring to mind, such as holidays, excursions, flights and destinations. Making sense of these and putting them into context is an important process in the study of travel and tourism. This industry is huge and comes up in most students’ top ten jobs. This course is designed to give students a greater understanding of the workings of this industry and is a great stepping stone to a career in travel and tourism or degree course at university.

Course content

Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector
This unit enables students to gain an overview of the components in travel and tourism.

The Business of Travel and Tourism
This unit is about exploring real organisations, looking at their characteristics and how they gain competitive advantage over others.

The UK as a Destination
Researching the needs of different visitors and the way in which the UK ‘tourism product’ can meet those needs.

Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
This unit introduces students to various customer service skills within travel and tourism.

European Destinations
In this unit students will gain skills to enable them to locate and explore the European travel market.

Researching Current Issues
This unit will develop research and self-management skills which are invaluable in employment and for those who wish to progress into higher education.

Entry requirements

For all BTEC courses students must have achieved five A*-C at GCSE OR Equivalent including a C or above in GCSE English or Maths.
