Course description

Physics:

Physics is the study of the fundamental aspects of Science from the infinitely small to the infinitely big. Physics is always evolving and advances are vital to improving our knowledge of Engineering, Medicine, Nanotechnology and Astrophysics.

Studying Physics at RSFC will develop your current knowledge from GCSE to an advanced level. You will continue your development of numeracy skills, problem solving, logic and analysis as well as practical skills in Physics. These skills give any Physics student an excellent foundation into a wide variety of university courses including Engineering, Physical Sciences and Medicine. Some students may decide to use their skills in more diverse courses such as Economics or Acoustics, Audio & Video Engineering.

Entry requirements

To study A-Levels at RSFC you must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, covering at least four different subject areas. Two of the 5 A* - C grades must include GCSE Maths and English Language. A good school reference, attendance and behaviour record are also required as is a positive college interview. 

The 5 A*-C must include Higher Tier GCSE Core AND Additional Science or Physics if you have studied the 3 separate sciences.

Financial information

If you are between 16 and 19 years old and think that you might struggle with the costs of full-time education you may apply for a bursary. The students most in need will be eligible to receive a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:

• Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

• Young people in care• Care leavers

• Young people in receipt of income support

Other students facing genuine financial difficulties can apply for the Discretionary Bursary Fund (DBF).The DBF can support students with travel costs, equipment, books and other course-related costs.
