Business Studies - A2 Level at Skinners' Academy

Course description

The qualification is built around a core unit with an enterprise theme. It is a course that will enable you to feel confident enough to think of a new business idea, carry out research and develop it. The qualification will introduce you to international business, equipping you to either work in or to manage a business in an international context. The GCE is designed to enable progression from GCSE in Business Studies, Business & Economics, Applied Business and Business & Communications and is the equivalent of the old single award GCE. While studying Business you will be expected to be able to: • tackle a problem or need • plan an activity • implement your plans • effectively evaluate the process What will I study? There are different pathways to achieving the final Advanced Subsidiary or Advanced GCE in Business Studies. AS GCE Business 2008 Unit 1 Developing New Business Ideas Unit 2a Managing Business A2 GCE Business 2008 Unit 3 International Business Unit 4a Making Business Decisions Assessment A variety of assessment techniques will be used supported by multiple choice questions, data response questions, case studies and a decision-making report. Each unit is externally assessed and based on a final written paper.

Entry requirements

for AS level – a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, usually with a Grade B or above in the subject to be taken at AS level or in an associated subject. for A2 level – candidates should normally have obtained a pass at AS level, preferably at grade C or above.

Future opportunities

It may also lead on to a career in the commercial world eg, in banking, sales, product management or general management. Business and management skills are also considered desirable skills to have in public sector organisations or charities. This qualification aims to provide a solid foundation for studies at a higher level in the following subject areas: business management, business administration, accountancy and finance, human resource management, marketing, retail management, tourism management or international business.
