Why should I study Design and Technology: Product Design - Graphics?
In undertaking this course, students are given the opportunity to develop their creative, technical and practical skills through a series of product investigation, design and manufacturing activities. Graphic products encompasses a wide range of design disciplines but is routed in the skills required to design and make high-quality products. This qualification emphasises two key factors: creativity and sustainability. All modern designers have to consider sustainability issues when designing new products. Good design is vital to our world and economy.
What skills can I gain from studying Design and Technology: Product Design - Graphics?
Design and technology requires students to demonstrate a broad range of skills including: application of number; communication; oral, written and graphical: information and communication technology including CAD/CAM; working with a range of graphic modelling materials and processes; problem solving and working with others. This qualification also provides opportunities for developing an understanding of moral, ethical, social and cultural issues, together with an awareness of environmental issues and health & safety considerations.
Students should have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-C (Please note that subjects can only be counted once). Experience has shown that students are likely to be more succesful in this subject, where they have previously acquired at least a grade B in a design based subject at GCSE level. Good passes in Art and/or ICT related subjects would be an additional benefit.
Students, male and female would find this course interesting, challenging and rewarding. Successful completion of this course could lead to careers in design related professions, such as graphic design, engineering, architecture, product design, environmental development, teaching etc. In addition, this course enables students to develop skills through their project work, which are valued by employers in a much broader field of employment.
